"Woman, you need not go to another place, for I Am He, the very One you seek to worship." So, you're saying all those worldly things, the praise, the grades, the image, that I desire so much, that I seek after so hard, that I worship before I worship you...I don't need to go after those? You, who are standing right in front of me, are the One I am ultimately seeking to worship?
"You need not be afraid, I can control the seas, I Am He." So, you're saying that in the times when all I see are waves crashing all around me...I don't need to fear? You, the one who is walking on water, are the One who controls the seas?
You are Ani, Ani hu? Ego, ego eimi? You are I Am He?
You are God who became flesh?
You are Jesus, who's hands were nailed to the cross?
You are God, who suffers there, and became sin there?
You are the One who died for me?
"Yes! Yes! A thousand times -- YES!" Thank you that the answers to all those questions are YES, a thousand times yes!
On page 107, when DJ brings up the Jewish officers' reactions to Jesus's claim, I was struck by this sentence, "were those Jews so accustomed to prostrating themselves immediately when they heard the divine pronouns, "I-He," that they responded without thinking?" How often is that our response when in the presence of the Lord, when hearing His name? Not often enough, I don't think.
"In light of His great Tabernacle claim we see why life is so miserable when we do not do it Jesus's way. The only rational, sensible, logical, truly realistic thing to do is surrender to the Center of Life. ...If Jesus is in fact who He thinks He is, the He is worthy of our impassioned worship. He is worthy of our impassioned love. He is worthy of our impassioned allegiance in every sector of life!"
May that be how we live our lives. Surrendered to the I Am He, giving all worship, love, and allegiance to Him in every part of our life. And even if we don't...He'll probably just "walk into our lives" and command it anyway: "Come to me. Follow me. Lose your life for Me!" :)
I underlined and highlighted a lot of the texts that you shared in your post. Fun to see how sometimes similar passages jump out at us while reading at different times and in different places.
