A Bridge to Calvary and Communion

The Latin word for priest is pontifex.  What is interesting to note is that pontifex is an engineering term.  In particular a pontifex is a bridge builder.  A priest is a bridge builder; a mediator is a bridge builder.

In order to build a bridge, the builder has to know both sides of the canyon over which the bridge is to be built, right?  Jesus is the great Bridge Builder because He knows both sides of the canyon between God and humanity very well. (120) (Johnson, Darrell Who is Jesus?)

This passage spurred me to ask -  I what places do you sense a want to hide from the master bridge builder?  Is there a bridge that Jesus has established in your heart that you’d like to abandon or not walk down?  Often I see the bridge leading to calvary.  Jesus wants to lead me there to share His glory.  Jesus continue to refine your passion in me and glorify your name in blood and testimony.

Again and again we hear Him saying things like “I only say what I hear the Father say,” or “I only do what I see My Father do.”  As David Gooding of Irelande puts it: “No prophet, priest, poet, or king ever spoke of God as his personal Father in the way and to the extent that Jesus did.”….the wonder of the Gospel is that we who are made are adopted by the Father into that unique relationship.” (124) (Johnson, Darrrell Who is Jesus?)

Thanks Jesus for inviting me into communion with the dynamic relational activity of you, your Father, and the Holy Spirit.  Thank you for choosing before the foundation of time to make us  in your image.
